ABOUT THE ARTIST

Witchinghour or by her name, Alex, is an artist and illustrator native to Michigan and based in Northern Michigan in a small farming town and on the edge of vast pine forests, cradled by the Great Lakes that surround the state. While a young artist still with much more time grow, she has gotten her bachelors in Illustration and Concept Art from the Rocky Mountain School of Art and Design.
Alex is an artist that specializes in bringing the dark and fantastical to the complex emotions we feel, such as the variations of pain, sadness, and happiness, throughout our lives to create thought provoking and imaginative visual stories. Inspired by a variety of things like gothic genres, horror, and classic fantasy media, folklore, nature, medieval history, and her own introspection on emotions, Alex seeks to create meaningful visual experiences to share empathy and fictional enjoyment through her art to encourage viewers to understand complex feelings and concepts. Much like how Alex has learned from her own grandmother through stories and creativity. While she primarily works in digital media, Alex also enjoys incorporating oil, gouache or acrylic paint, or ink and graphite into her works, combined in mixed media or on their own.
Alex has forever been intrigued by deep feeling and creative pursuits even before art, such as collaborative writing and music. She is an avid musician, playing flute and piccolo, but is also a fanatic admirer of many genres of music, such a dark and new wave, metal, folk, and many more. Besides for other creative pursuits, Alex is also a mycology and botany hobbyist, enjoying going out for hikes to identify and forage for mushrooms and plants. However she enjoys other hobbies that are more fit for indoors, as studying history is among her favorites.
